What is a Headache?

Headache involves pain in the head which can arise from
illness.
Headache can be a main disorder like in migraine.
What are the various types of headache?
Migraine
*  Migraine Headache
    Begin as dull headache and develops into a constant
throbbing and pulsating pain
    affecting one side of the brain


* Tension Headache
    Results of physical & emotional stress. Pain occurs
sporadically and without pattern.
* Cluster Headache
   Comes in groups lasting weeks or months .Pain occurs once or
twice or more than twice
   daily lasting 30 to 90 minutes.
What happens during migraine?

During a migraine, the blood vessels in head narrow and
widen, causing a pain.
What are the symptoms of migraine?
  1. Intense pain one or both sides of the head
  2. Zigzags of flashes of light
  3. Eye pain / Blurred vision
  4. Numbness on the one side of your body or trouble speaking
  5. Loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting
  6. Feeling of tenderness in your head and neck
  7. Sensitivity to light and sounds
  8. Fatigue
  9. Problems concentrating,trouble finding words
  10. Sweating

burden on the family and delay admission to a nursing home. This also improves
quality of life.


Do’s and Don’ts in migraine?

Do’s
  • Change your diet. Don’t skip meals.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Develop good sleep habits. Stick to a schedule to go to
    sleep and wake up.Don’t sleep less or oversleep.
  • Take medicines as prescribed. Be sure to take it exactly as
    prescribed because overuse of some medications can make migraines worse.
  • Reduce stress to your life. Regularly practice relaxation
    techniques such as yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, or
    biofeedback as suggested by your healthcare provider.
  • Body posture and movement can put stress on your head,neck and shoulder muscles.Practice correct body postures and movements to help reduce muscle tension.
  • Exercise regularly.
Don’ts
  • Don’t self medicate. There are many drugs available to treat
    but take medicine only prescribed by your doctor.
  • Avoid bright sun,wear hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
  • Avoid long hours in front of television or computer.
  • Don’t work in poor lighting.
  • Avoid going outdoors,if it is too hot and humid.
  • Following foodstuffs may trigger migraines.Avoid them if you
    get migraines after eating or drinking them.
  1. Any processed,fermented,pickled or marinated foods,as well asBeverages or food containing caffeine
  2. Dairy products
  3. Chicken livers and smoked fish
  4. Onions and bananas
  5. Chocolate
  6. Nuts and peanut butter
  7. Red wine.

  1. Very well explained about Migrane. Its really useful. Thanks for writting such nice and informative and useful article. Do's and Don'ts are really helpful.
    Other than going with the Doctor's advice I do Yoga and meditation to avoid all stress related problem.Everyday morning I start my day with yoga then light few Cycle incense sticks and start meditating. Yoga and meditation helps a lot for the people who is suffering in chronic headache. Try and let me know if it is useful.
